Domain names are used to identify one or more IP addresses. For example, thedomain name microsoft.com represents about a dozen IP addresses. Domainnames are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages. For example, in the URL http://www.pcwebopedia.com/index.html, the domain name is pcwebopedia.com.
►Uses of Domain
In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) resource, such as a personal computer used to access the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site itself or any other service communicated via the Internet. In 2017, 330.6 milliondomain names had been registered.
►Hosting
A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed in the Internet. Websites are hosted, or stored, on special computers called servers. ... Ifyou do not have a domain, the hosting companies will help you purchase one.
►Uses of Hosting
The web hosting service provider gives a share of disk space and accessible bandwidth to a client for a monthly cost. Once the client is joined, they can upload files to their personal space on the web server and the data is then visible to anybody intrigued on the Internet. The monthly fee charged by the web hosting service provider is much less than what it would cost to run a server out of your own home or data center. This is the main reason for these organizations to exist. They deal with all the hardware, software, and other specialized requirements for you.
